One of the most important values we can teach children is a love for nature. To encourage this, you can do activities with them in the countryside or another natural setting, visit a farm, or create a garden. There are countless options, and the goal is to have fun while learning at the same time.
Here are some tips to help children enjoy taking care of nature:
- Recycling can be fun. You can turn it into a game by teaching your child to throw each item into a different coloured bin, depending on what it’s made of.
- Turn off the tap and save water. Saving water is essential for protecting the environment. It’s better to take a shower than a bath, and if you’re brushing your teeth or turning on the tap, always remember to turn it off when you’re not using it.
- Paper goes in the bin. Teach your child to put paper in the bin, not on the floor. Explain that this helps keep the environment clean, allows us to recycle properly, and protects the trees.
- Turn off the light. We often walk through the house switching on lights in every room we enter. Don’t forget to turn them off again, it’s a simple way to save electricity.
- Share your toys. When your child no longer plays with their toys, teach them to give them to another child. It’s a lovely way to give the toys a new life and make someone else happy.
- Do not uproot plants. It’s important for children to understand that plants are living things. They shouldn’t be stepped on or pulled out of the ground. Instead, they should be protected and cared for.
- Things in the street belong to everyone. Your child should learn that everything they see in public spaces belongs to all of us and, therefore, must be respected and not damaged.
- Look after your pets. A dog, a cat, or any other pet is a living creature and needs food. Take it to the vet if it gets sick, and play with it.
- Recycle paper. It is important to recycle paper to make the most of it. You can print on both sides and teach your child that they can draw on both sides of a sheet.
WE RESPECT NATURE!!
